This cocktail puts apple-cider comfort into a sparkling bourbon drink. Shake the still ingredients first, then finish in the glass with ginger beer for a cold, aromatic cocktail with a crisp, spicy finish.
American
Bourbon Apple Ginger Fizz
One Halloween when I was living in Phoenix, the weather was finally starting to change, and I was craving something festive to sip in front of my backyard fireplace. Bourbon and apple have always felt like a lovely match to me, so I brought them together in this cocktail with a little cinnamon, fresh lime and the sparkle of ginger beer. It has that cozy American fall feeling, but the bright citrus and ginger keep every sip lively. This drink brings back such fond memories of fall in Phoenix—and makes me want to settle into a chair by the fire and stay awhile.

Chef Notes
- All ounce measurements for liquid ingredients are US fluid ounces. Agave nectar is undiluted syrup, not a premixed agave simple syrup.
- This recipe contains 9.25 US fluid ounces of liquid before ice melt. Choose a generously sized bourbon or rocks glass, about 16–18 ounces or larger depending on the ice cube, so there is room to stir without spilling.
- Ground cinnamon does not dissolve completely in a cold cocktail; a fine suspended fleck or light settling is normal.
- Nutrition assumes 80-proof bourbon and regular Fever-Tree Premium Ginger Beer. Higher-proof bourbon or a different ginger-beer formulation changes the estimate.

Recipe Guidance
Storage
Serve the finished cocktail immediately. If preparing the still base in advance, refrigerate it in a clean, tightly sealed container without ice or ginger beer for no more than 24 hours for best flavor. Keep the dried apple wheels and cinnamon sticks dry and separate. Store opened cider and ginger beer according to their labels; use freshly opened ginger beer for the strongest fizz. Do not freeze the finished cocktail.
Reheating
Do not reheat. This is a cold cocktail. If the uncarbonated base has been refrigerated, shake it with fresh ice, pour into the prepared glass and add fresh cold ginger beer. A finished drink that has lost its fizz is best remade rather than warmed.
Make Ahead
Up to 24 hours ahead, measure and combine the bourbon, lime juice, apple cider, agave and cinnamon in a sealed refrigerated container. Recombine any settled cinnamon before shaking. Prepare the large ice cube in advance. Add ice, garnishes and ginger beer only when serving.
Serving Suggestions
Serve one generous cocktail in a bourbon or rocks glass with room for the liquid and a large ice cube. Finish with the cinnamon stick and dried apple wheel specified in the recipe. No companion recipe has been selected.
